The volleyball season kicked off last night with home matches versus Olympia. The B game started the night off and played in front of a full house! The girls played really well and got the evening rolling. The 7th grade team dropped the first set but came back and won the next set with strong serving. They kept up the momentum and were able to win the final set 25-18 to get the win! The 8th grade team also dropped their first set, but ALSO came back strong to win the 2nd. The 3rd set was back and forth, with long rally's. The girls fought hard, but dropped the final set 23-25. The next game is home tomorrow versus Havana. Come out and support your Raider Volleyball team!

Hello Raiders, The first snow or winter weather event always seems to stir up the excitement that school may be cancelled. We pride ourselves on student safety; however, that has to be balanced with the fact that we live in central Illinois, and it does snow and get cold in the winter months. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I try make decisions on weather events based upon whether I’d want my own children driving or attending school on those days. I also personally drive roads in our district to make my decisions. With our district residing in two different counties, it’s important to understand that one county may plow roads in time for school while another may choose to wait. All these factors go into making the best decision possible for students and staff. Granted it’s never perfect. In general, if I can’t drive a small call on the roads we’re going to cancel. It’s important to remember that snow is much easier to deal with than ice. Our buses cannot operate safely on ice, but they do fine in minimal snow. The other factor to consider is how cold it is outside. Finally, if we do need to cancel school, I will send out a call/text message. If you’ve not been getting our messages, please make sure your phone number is correct in TeacherEase or call our offices to confirm. We’ll post on our Facebook pages and do our best to contact local television stations as well. Because our buses start early, we will always aspire to cancel before 5:30 AM. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to navigate the Illinois winter weather. As the saying goes…if you don’t like the weather today…wait until tomorrow. Sincerely, Todd Hellrigel

The 7th grade Raiders basketball team shook off a slow start after the long Christmas break to down the PORTA Bluejays 43 - 32 to move their record to 17 - 1! Trailing 7 - 4 early in the first quarter, the Raiders rallied behind Joe Proehl's 12 first quarter points to secure the 19 - 9 lead that they would never relinquish. Proehl finished with 14 points on the night to go along with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals! The Raiders also got a huge game out of Jase Canada. Canada had a game high 15 points on an efficient 6 of 8 from the field, including 3 three pointers, to go along with an assist, 2 steals, and a couple of rebounds! Jaxton Bolen also had 5 points to go along with his 4 rebounds! In eighth grade action, the Raiders had a tough second and third quarter as they fell to PORTA. The Raiders loss now moves them to 11 - 7 on the season.

The 7th grade boys capped the pre-Christmas part of their season with a BANG, defeating the Illini Central Cougars 35 - 26 to improve to 16 - 1 on the season! With the score close in the second quarter, Midwest Central got back to back 3 pointers and a layup with 3 seconds to go in the first half from Jase Canada to give the Raiders a 21-12 lead going into the locker room that they would never relinquish. Canada finished with 8 points and 2 rebounds on the evening. Joe Proehl also had a huge game for the Raiders, stuffing the stat sheet with 19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists! The 8th grade Raiders, battling some injury and illnesses, got down early and couldn't recover, falling to the Cougars 29 - 15 to end their pre-Christmas record at 11 - 6. The Raiders look to take some well deserved time off during the Christmas season with their next regular season game scheduled for January 9 at PORTA beginning at 6:00 PM!

The 7th grade boys basketball team jumped out to a 19 - 0 lead and moved their record to 15 - 1 with a dominant 45 - 9 victory over Delavan on Thursday night! 12 different players hit the scoring column for Midwest Central, with Joe Proehl leading the way with 8 points on an efficient 4 - 5 shooting from the floor. Colton Watts and Kaiden Hill also finished with 6 points and Tyler Byrd had 3 steals and 4 points! In the 8th grade game the Raiders played them close early but Delavan's hot shooting proved to be too much and the Raiders fell to 11 - 5 on the season. Both teams look to get refreshed and healthy for a home rivalry matchup with Illini Central on Tuesday beginning at 5:30!
