The Raiders 8th grade basketball picked up a gritty regional victory on Saturday morning, coming back from a 13-2 deficit and defeating the Mt Pulaski Bruins 39-36.
Down 13-2 early in the first quarter, the Raiders used a clutch performance from Cade Brotherton to cut the lead to 13-12 at half. After trading buckets for most of the second half the Raiders managed to pull ahead late and with some clutch free throws down the stretch from Joe Proehl and Cade Brotherton, the Raiders were able to survive and advance!
Brotherton had a monster game for the Raiders, dropping in a career high 17 points on 4 three pointers. Joe Proehl added 10 big points and Blake Molitor added 7 to move their record to 13 - 8!
The 2 seeded Raiders continue their season on Wednesday at 6:45 PM in Mt Pulaski where they will take on the 3 seeded Illini Central Cougars! Come out and support your Raiders!

"Our team effort all season from player 1 through player 20 has never wavered. All of the boys go 100% from the moment they walk in the gym. We set goals at the beginning of the season and breaking the 28 year Regional Championship drought was one of them. I am so proud of these boys, but we aren't done yet..."

The Raiders boys basketball teams caged the Tigers on 8th grade night, defeating Illini Bluffs in front of a packed house in both the 7th and 8th grade games!
In 7th grade action, the boys struggled a little out of the gate, leading only 10-8 after the first quarter. However a huge 19 - 1 third quarter was the key difference in the game as the Raiders ended the game on a running clock to win 56 - 21. 9 different Raiders reached the scoring column, with Joe Proehl leading the charge with 24 points on an efficient 11 for 15 shooting. Jase Canada also chipped in 9 points on another strong shooting night, and Jaxton Bolen had 8 points for the Raiders!
However, tonight was about 8th grade night, and the Raiders didn't disappoint. Putting on a show for the sold out crowd using a balanced attack and shut down defense, the Raiders blanked the Tigers in the second quarter to push their lead to 18 - 6 and they would never look back! Blake Molitor had a team leading 8 points and 6 rebounds and Zayne Arthalony added 7 points and 9 rebounds as the Raiders ended their season on a win and made their 8th grade night a rousing success!
The 7th grade concludes their regular season with an impressive 19 wins and 1 loss and look to keep their season going as the number 1 seed in the regional on Saturday at 10:00 AM at Mt. Pulaski against Marquette Heights!
