For the second consecutive year, the Raiders basketball team is heading to the STATE TOURNAMENT! In a repeat of last year’s Sectional Championship, the Raiders downed Decatur Catholic 34-28 to capture the 2A Sectional Championship at Decatur St. Teresa! The game was tight from the opening tipoff, with both teams taking leads throughout the game until Jase Canada hit a go ahead 3 on an assist from Joe Proehl with 4:45 left in the fourth to give the Raiders the lead 26-24. Two clutch free throws by Evan Schmidt after a big defensive stop increased the lead to 28-24. After Decatur cut the lead to 2 after a loose ball scramble, Joe Proehl got a huge steal and rebound on consecutive possessions and added some free throws with 1:26 left in the game to make it 30-26, and then 4 clutch free throws down the stretch from Canada sealed the game and the Raiders second straight Sectional Championship! Canada finished the night with a game high 17 points on an efficient 5 of 9 from field, including a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe. Joe Proehl added a compete game with 9 points, 7 boards, 5 dimes and a steal! Jake Hunter hit a huge three pointer and 2 more rebounds as the Raiders won the game on the glass, out rebounding Decatur Catholic 21-17. The Raiders now will play in the Elite 8 this Saturday at Kankakee Bishop McNamara at 11:30 against Milford. Congratulations to Coach Thompson and the boys on another sensational performance!

History repeats itself. For the first time since 1995 and 1996, your Raiders are back to back Regional CHAMPIONS! With their 49-40 victory over Springfield Blessed Sacrament, the Raiders punched their second consecutive ticket to the Sectional Championship! The Raiders overcame some early adversity, having to overcome some early fouls and hot shooting by the Bruins, but in the end a dominant fourth quarter with clutch free throw shooting secured the championship! Joe Proehl and Jase Canada had monster games for the Raiders with Canada scoring a team high 21 points on an efficient 7 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 5 from the free throw line, and Proehl adding 18 points, including 5 huge points in the fourth quarter, 7 rebounds, 4 dimes and 4 steals. Additional help came from all over the Raider lineup, with Sportsmanship Pin winner Noah Coffey contributing a bucket and 3 boards, Evan Schmidt adding 3 rebounds, and Jaxton Bolen adding 6 big points to go with his 3 rebounds! The Raiders were also clutch from the free throw line, going 12 of 15 from the charity stripe. Coach Thompson had this to say after the game: “Total Effort! This team sticks together and builds their fellow teammates up. A true team over me approach.” With the victory, Midwest Central secured its 22nd victory and a Sectional Championship rematch with Decatur Lady our Lourdes on Monday at Decatur St. Teresa. Game time is 6:30. Come show out for our boys!

Mrs. Henry's classes have been engaged with their small group discussions regarding theme and analytical questions for Lois Lowry's "The Giver." Students are working on identifying which of their questions, connections, comments, and predictions are worth sharing with the rest of the class and identifying patterns or other areas of significance. Way to go Raiders!
