Today we presented the family of the young student in our District fighting cancer with the proceeds generated from our HS boys' basketball Coaches for Cancer Benefit. The total amount collected from all sources of the benefit totalled $2025.00. Midwest Central would like to thank all those who donated and purchased items for this cause.

Our Administrative Assistant team of Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Wilbur, and Mrs. Gregory are the glue to this whole building. Our grade level and student support teams keep the students flowing throughout the day but the secretarial team keep the adults working at maximum potential. They are the face and voice of the building, Ms. Timm, Mr. Mooney, and Mrs. Jackson's right (and sometimes left!) hands, and the logistical masters. They assist the adults with technology for the multiple programs we utilize, plan schedules, identify barriers and successes we could encounter, order all materials for our staff, and keep students and parents calm when uncertainty is faced. They are the life and breath into our adults who then breathe that life into children. We are one team here at MCPS and we need each other in so many ways to create forward motion, with purpose.

"We Are Raiders!" Now for the Raiders who really keep Midwest Central Primary School functioning each day. Our paraprofessional team are the masters of all trades. They help students off and on buses, coordinate lunch and recess, assist with all levels of academic learning, help students make friends and demonstrate respect, tie shoes, assist with personal care, play games, and the list goes on and on and on. Our daily student functioning could not occur without the supports of these paraprofessionals: Front Row: Mrs. Schafer, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Trettin, Mrs. Oertle, Mrs. McIntyre; Back Row: Mrs. Meeker, Mrs. Piro, Mrs. Neulinger, Mrs. Byrd, Mrs. Neulinger, Ms. Mangold, Ms. Sloter (not pictured: Mrs. Garman, library paraprofessional).

Primary school Raiders got to do a Gymnastics Unit in PE. They learned how to control their bodies in air by squeezing their muscles. Some skills we practiced were: body positions for a hollow hold, tuck, open & closed pike and straddle, forward rolls, tripods, head stands, handstands, and cartwheels. This was SO MUCH FUN!

The 5th grade team might make up the oldest team at MCPS, not because of their ages but because of their years of experience which is well over 60 between just the three of them! Ms. Mooningham joined the 5th grade team, coming from 4th, with Mr. Guenther and Mrs. Berg. This team prepares students for leaving the elementary school and moving on to the middle school and that is no easy weight to carry. They pour their heart and souls into their 5th grade students for the last 180 days of their MCPS lives and it shows in the maturity and development that occurs by the end of 5th grade. Fun facts about Mr. Guenther: he retires in 80 days after 34 years with Midwest Central CUSD 191 and he was Principal Timm's 5th grade teacher!

Take a look at our 3rd grade teaching team! Ms. Powell is our student teacher from Illinois State University and she is fearlessly guided by master teacher, Mrs. Deluhery, and supported by the rest of the team including Mrs. Coile, Ms. Campbell, and Mr. Askins. Although she is home with her newest job of mothering two tiny twins, Mrs. Juchems (not pictured) is dearly missed in the third grade. This is a resilient team who are honest and trustworthy and this shines through in their students who are often identified as leaders in the building because their hard work, determination, and kindness. Third grade is a great place to be!

Yesterday, Kenzie Stiltz paid a visit to Miss Nieuwkoop's 1st grade class to read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka. She also stayed to teach the class about the book The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which she had read with her own class. Kenzie used her Raider tickets to buy a pass to read to a class. She chose to come read to her little brother Karson. Great work Kenzie!!

Greetings from our 2nd grade team of Ms. Charlton, Ms. S. Waddell, Mrs. Thompson, and Mrs. Schmidgall. This team supports students in taking their newly formed first grade skills into a solid foundation before the end of each year. Preparing students for third grade and beyond is a huge feat and this team does it in style with hands on learning and deep units of study focusing on real life problems and solutions. The type of study in 2nd grade also promotes massive social and emotional growth at this age! This team is a retired 60+ in their teaching age and their expertise shines through daily!

Our special education department stands firm on their beliefs that special education is a level of support, not a place! Mrs. Pullum, Ms. Swearingen, Mrs. Gough, Mrs. Herrin, and Mrs. McDaniels live this out daily by making sure all students have learning opportunities in the general education setting. This team not only support students with academics but are able to provide levels of support for students in social settings as well supports to general education teachers to work as a team to meet the needs of all students in all settings. MCPS has a knowledgeable and committed group of special education leaders!

"We are Raiders" Greetings to our first grade teaching team of Ms. Davis, Ms. Marshall, Mrs. Bohm, and Ms. Nieuwkoop. This grade level team keeps our building lively and fun, bringing an energy to their classrooms and students. There is always an active project going on in first grade as this age of students requires that energy, hands-on instruction, and movement to increase their learning. While this may be our "youngest" group of public school teaching experience, this team leads through innovation, energy, and patience and we rely on this team to keep us having fun! They also have a very important task of being a bridge from Kindergarten to second grade... and that's no small task!

"We are Raiders!" Meet the academic intervention team including Ms. Ropp, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Whitford, and Ms. Kleckner. These four gems bring their specialty knowledge of reading and math instruction to small groups or individuals who have not reached their potential yet. And that is just it, the power of "yet". With the support of this team, students are able to overcome difficulties in reading and math and transfer their skills into their daily classroom instruction. These ladies also provide MCPS teachers with support in their classrooms through team teaching and professional development on a monthly basis. Together, we are better!
